Marking a learner absent opens a catch-up in the same transaction. Nothing is copied into it — the content is assembled from lesson records when it is opened, so a teacher who fills in their capture at four o'clock improves a catch-up created at eleven. The number that matters on this page is therefore the lesson capture rate, not the number of catch-ups: at 50% an absent learner gets half a picture, and that is a staff conversation rather than a software problem.
