What this screen is for

A message that reaches a class and is then deleted has already arrived — the notification fired and the screen showed it. So screening happens before the message is stored. Text is screened by machine: sexual content, secrecy and off-platform requests, threats, scams, and contact details where a learner could read them. Photographs are not screened by machine, and this page says so rather than implying otherwise.
